Inside of foot pass – Speed / weight of pass

What does this mean?

The speed or weight of the pass is how fast or far you kick it. If you are passing to a team mate, you don’t want to kick it so hard that it becomes hard for them to control. You also don’t want to kick it soft so that the opposition intercepts the ball or so that your team mate has to change momentum to come and collect your soft pass.

This video shows how good speed of pass with the inside of the foot can lead to a great scoring opportunity.

How do you know if you are good or bad?

Common errors and corrections

  • Plant foot is too far in front of the ball resulting in the player hitting the top of the ball into the ground.
  • Ankle is not locked and the sole of the foot is not parallel to the ground resulting in the ball not being hit firm
  • Knees are not locked, resulting in a swing of the ball which can not be controlled.

Take the test:

Players kick the ball into each of the zones. Five attempts at getting the ball in the five yard zone, five attempts at getting the ball in the 10 yard zone and five attempts at getting the ball into the 15 yard zone.

Record your score.
